چکیده

UNLABELLED The practice of pathology is currently undergoing significant change, due to advances in the field of molecular pathology. Tumor markers are molecules that help the pathologists for confirmatory diagnosis of histopathologically confounding lesions. Odontogenic tumors are relatively rare with estimated incidence of less than 0.5 cases/ 100,000 population per year. Odontogenic tumors can pose diagnostic challenges because of overlapping histology. But, appropriate diagnosis is crucial as their treatment modality and prognosis differ; in these situations tumor markers can be helpful. But lack of comprehensive literature on specific markers for odontogenic tumors imposes pathologists to think aimlessly about various markers to arrive at an appropriate diagnosis. With this background, it is our attempt at compiling diagnostically important odontogenic tumor markers. Also, a note is added on tumor behaviour studies in common clinically important odontogenic tumors: Ameloblastoma and Keratocystic odontogenic tumor. Aggressive calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor masquerading as maxillary sinus tumor: a case report.

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor is a rare odontogenic neoplasm. Its occurrence in the maxillary sinus is very rare. Maxillary tumors tend to be locally aggressive and may rapidly involve the surrounding vital structures.  We report a case of calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor involving maxillary sinus in a 48 years old female patient with the oral mucosal involvement. The purpose o...

Aggressive Recurrent Odontogenic Ghost Tumor with Cranial Invasion.

Calcifying odontogenic cyst (COC) is a unique odontogenic lesion with combined features of a cyst and neoplasm.  This lesion shows a great diversity in its clinicopathological behavior.  It may become aggressive and rarely malignant.  This case is an aggressive COC of the maxilla in a young male patient which recurred after several radical surgical excisions.  Eventually invading the cranium, t...

It commonly occurs in anterior region of maxilla associated with an impacted tooth. Multifocal odontogenic lesions are uncommon and have only been observed in conditions associated with known genetic mutations. To...

Hybrid Odontogenic Lesion: A Rare Entity

Hybrid tumors are very rare tumors composed of two different tumor entities, each of which conforms to an exactly defined tumor category. A 14-year-old boy was referred for an intraosseous painless lesion with a histopathological feature of multiple odontogenic lesions including calcifying odontogenic cyst, complex odontoma and ameloblastic fibro-odontoma. The final diagnosis considered to be a...

Calcifying epithelial odontogenic (Pindborg) tumor involving a 16-year-old girl with no ‎prominent clinical manifestation: A case report

BACKGROUND AND AIM: The calcifying epithelial odontogenic tumor (CEOT) is a rare entity described by Pindborg and represents < 1% of all odontogenic tumors. Nearly 200 cases of this neoplasm have been reported to date. It mostly occurs in the posterior mandible associated with an impacted tooth, most often a mandibular molar. Patients are usually between 30 and 50 years of age, with no sex pred...
